When we bid farewell to the end of a dark or lonely night we welcome the warm glow of a sunrise. As the snappy winter wind inspires us to turn up our coat collars, we long for tinge of color to brighten our back yards with a growing hue of green. Well folks, I have great news. Hilda Kilpatrick’s paintings will do just that. Cheers! Enter stage right, a palate of full spectrum celebration. Kilpatrick’s solo show “The Season of Color” at the Buenaventura Gallery from April 1 through April 27, 2008 is an energetic display of color with a few surprises for those familiar with Kilpatrick’s expressionistic style. Opening reception for the artist will be held on Saturday, April 5 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The artist will also be at the gallery during the Ventura Spring ArtWalk, April 26 & 27, 2008. Kilpatrick’s images are based from California scenery that has been inspirational to her for years. When choosing a scene Kilpatrick says “I paint places that speak to my soul, that make me laugh inside and that make my heart jump with excitement.” Peruvian born and well traveled, Hilda Kilpatrick appreciates the timeless moments of a place that may not be here tomorrow. Hilda Kilpatrick has participated as an ArtWalk artist since 2003 and shown work in many Ventura locations such as the Ventura Beach Marriott, Museum of Ventura County, Accolades Gallery, Natalie's Eclectibles, Gallery at the Crowne Plaza, Ventura Visitors Center, Ventura Government Center, Café Zack and Fusion Home. Hilda is a recipient of the 2007-2008 Artist Fellowship Grant from the City of Ventura and two of her paintings are currently on display at the City of Ventura Mayor’s office. Hilda Kilpatrick has also been published in Sky West Magazine and was the chosen as the 2007 poster image for the Ventura Hillside Conservancy Concert Promotional Poster. In 2006, Hilda won the 1st Prize for the Plein Air Exhibit at the Ventura County Maritime Museum This will be her second solo exhibit with the Buenaventura Art Association. The Buenaventura Gallery is located at 700 E. Santa Clara St. in downtown Ventura. Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 12 to 5 pm and Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm.
